Salicylic acid is a white crystalline powder, odorless, slightly bitter and then spicy. The melting point is 157-159 ºC, which gradually changes color under light. Relative density 1.44. The boiling point is about 211 ºC / 2.67kpa. Sublimation at 76 ºC. It is rapidly heated and decomposed into phenol and carbon dioxide under normal pressure. It can dissolve about 3ml of petroleum glycerin and 60ml of ethyl ether in 3ml of boiling water, and about 3ml of acetone and 60ml of salicylic acid in 3ml of boiling water. Adding sodium phosphate and borax can increase the solubility of salicylic acid in water. The pH value of salicylic acid aqueous solution is 2.4. Salicylic acid and ferric chloride aqueous solution form a special purple.
